Publicity Shots Research

When designing our album cover we decided that we would have an image of the band, as this complies to conventions of debut albums and we felt it fit with the band's image. We also need promo shots for our website. Therefore we decided to do some research into what kind of publicity shots we wanted and what is conventional for three-piece and indie bands.

Paramore:

We liked the Paramore shots because of the clear band identity and the effortless poses. Their costumes, hair and make-up is all made to look naturalistic which is conventional for the indie genre.

Clean Bandit:

We liked the sense of unity in the band, they are often posed side-by-side to connote this. They have an identity which is British but with an international appeal, for example their costumes and the cups of tea in the first photograph are British but the image of 'cool' that they have is internationally appealing. We would like to do something similar.

Bombay Bicycle Club:

We liked the natural lighting, setting, hair and make-up of these shots as well as the costumes.

Years & Years:

We liked the use of colour in the Years & Years shots as well as the poses which connote them as a cool band. They are also a three piece so we will take influence from their poses.

Daughter:

We researched Daughter's publicity shots because they are a three piece band made up of two males and one female just like our band. We liked the use of costume and the natural lighting. However, we would like to have more of a sense of fun in our photos.

Green Day:

We liked the playfulness of Green Day's photos and the way the lead singer is clearly shown, as he is in the middle or in the foreground. The use of lighting is aesthetically pleasing as well.
